NICOLE’S POST
Embrace Beauty.
We say it every Sunday... "may we love God, embrace beauty and live life to the fullest". I have found that sometimes, routine can become mindless to me. As I set my intentions for myself and my family for 2026, I'm thinking deeply about that benediction.
How can I draw closer to God? Draw closer in love? How can I embrace the beauty that already surrounds me? How can I seek to create beauty in the world? And truly, how can I live life to the fullest?
Over the holidays, my family and I took a trip to Big Bend National Park with GTG Outdoors. 19 people, one campsite, me, Duke, and four kids in a tent. It was absolutely GLORIOUS. I have not considered myself "outdoorsy", but I did go on many camping trips as a kid with my Canadian grandparents around the Northeast of the US and Canada. I don't remember a lot of specifics about my childhood, but I can put myself in that tent, next to my grandma, in Prince Edward Island, Canada, anytime I close my eyes and think about it. The grandeur of beauty that exists in the world is unforgettable.
We were "unplugged". No screens, no phones, just playing with rocks when the kids had any idle time (and loving it), and lots of active time hiking and exploring. I felt the love of God, the love of their Creation, and the desire to make sure the place stayed exactly as it was: absolutely beautiful. I thanked my own body for carrying my four kids, and continuing to show her strength by hiking through the desert and towing a kid or two at all times simultaneously...while watching another kid or two fearlessly push boundaries. I can't say I always did that part with grace, ya'll.
I am grateful that the GarMelo family & GTG exists, because they made what seemed nearly impossible, joyfully possible. For families, even my big and energetic crew, to spend time together in nature, to learn how to love and care for our world, and to have a safe space to explore these things with experts in the field. They make these experiences accessible to as many people as they can. What a blessing. What a way to love God and others well.
So, to answer my own question, how will I live out UBC's benediction this year? I will draw closer to God's creation and create time for my family to connect, I will intentionally put love into the world, and I will seize any moment to live life to the absolute fullest: giving space for my kids to play with rocks, explore the world around them, and finding joy and gratitude in even the mundane.
I would love for you to take a moment to meditate on your intentions this year, too.
Love God. Embrace Beauty. Live life to the fullest.

Wanted: MiCasa Hosts!
We have a veritable slew of potential MiCasa participants waiting in the wings and we are looking for hosts and/or facilitators. Our small group format is communal, so you can trade off facilitating or pick someone to lead discussions/activities for the week or season. If you are interested in hosting a new group in your home or in facilitating one at the church, please email Andie at andie@ubcwaco.org. If you are interested in joining, same email, different subject line!
Prep Parties//Meals Available
After the Congressional Budget Bill passed in July of 2025, we knew that we had to respond with radical hospitality through practical means. The bill cut food assistance funding significantly, and will have lasting impacts on SNAP eligibility and work requirements. With so much food insecurity already in our community, we launched Prep Parties at UBC. Prep Parties are a chance for small groups of people to gather together, cook freezer meals, and stock the freezer in our kitchen. The meals are free to anyone in our congregation or broader community who may need them, whatever the reason. Too much month at the end of the money? Busy weekend protesting and advocating for policy change? Hosting a MiCasa and don't have time to cook? Please grab a meal!
If you are interested in joining our next round of Prep Parties, please email andie@ubcwaco.org. The plan is to restock on a quarterly basis, and we need shoppers, cooks, and hosts.
Freezer Meal Prep Parties
