ANDIE’S POST

This weekend was the Baylor Church fair, and it's an open secret that I look forward to it with an unnatural level of enthusiasm every year! The newness, the curiosity, the theo bros; what a combination! This year did not disappoint. Though I've only attended three, each year we've had more and more students seeking out LGBTQIA+ affirming churches and fewer and fewer packs of freshman guys looking to fight about theology. In the backdrop of Christian nationalism, it is a much-needed gift of hope to see 18-year-olds making choices to become more loving and less combative as it relates to their faith.  Simultaneously, I find myself feeling anxious about the “results” of church fair.  Will college students engage at Ubc?  Will they feel loved and cared for?  Will they even find their way to us?  I didn’t realize how much pressure I was putting on myself to get people through the door.  The thing about a progressive faith is that we refuse to manipulate people to get them here.  That is a much more vulnerable way to operate in the world.  It requires an open-hearted invitation and risks the rejection of that offer.  At the end of the day, I want to see our college kids thrive, and if the rest of Ubc is on board with that vision, that’s enough.  We can trust that God will bring the students who will grow at Ubc to Ubc.  My role is to make the invitations and be ready when they are accepted.  Even though we went to Baylor to meet and chat with college students, it looks like I ended up back in school myself.

EMBRACE BEAUTY FUND

As we’ve navigated changes and created a new vision for Ubc, we have found that we have an increasing need for meeting our budget goals. Would you consider establishing a recurring donation to our community? Recurring donations allow us to have a sense of how much money we are working with each month, which as you might imagine is extremely helpful in budgeting. We are of course open to one-time donations as well :). Please feel free to share with your friends, loved ones and social media as we work together to meet this need.

You can donate and read more about the giving campaign here.

You can give, as you’re able, on Sunday mornings or set up a single or recurring online gift here

If you ever have trouble with giving online or have a question about how to give, feel free to email administrator@ubcwaco.org.
