Andie’s Article
A few months ago, I wrote a newsletter article acknowledging that everything has changed and everything has stayed the same. In the wake of increasingly hateful anti-LGBTQIA+ and anti-immigrant legislation and sentiment, it was important to remember that rest and resistance can, and indeed, must co-exist. Now, in the wake of anti-ICE protests and the mobilization of the military (and I say this next part acknowledging the both/and nuances present) against the American people, I say to you again: rest and resistance must co-exist. I have doomed scrolled and over-consumed news with the hope that my knowledge would somehow quell my feelings of helplessness and fear. It hasn't. But do you know what has? The UNSHAKABLE knowledge that Jesus himself stands with and for the oppressed, marginalized, and excluded. I don't have to be an expert; I have to abide. I don't have to have all the answers; I have to recognize dehumanization and speak up, because each and every person in existence bears the Image of our Precious God. I don't have to tend to one emotion over the other, because empathy, anger, confusion, and fear can all mingle together to want what is best for everyone. For the people with power and for the people without. In the example of Jesus, may we long for the peace, goodness, and flourishing of all. May we set our eyes on the kingdom and through advocacy, prayer, attention, diligence, and rest, work to bring its shalom here today.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Waco Dives - Wednesday, June 11
Waco Dives is back and we are starting off with a classic: Le’s Kitchen! We will be meeting at Le’s Kitchen at noon Wednesday, and would for you to join us. This a great time to hang out with other UBC’ers in the middle of the week, and join a local hole-in-the-wall spot for lunch. No need to rsvp, just bring yourself (and a friend if you want). Toph won’t be there this week, so look for Kyle Howerton If you have any questions, contact toph@ubcwaco.org
Summer Movie Gathering - Sunday, June 29th
Join us on Sunday night, June 29th at 5:30pm for an all-church movie gathering. We will have pizza, popcorn, and drinks for everyone, and we will be showing a family friendly PG movie. Invite your friends, and come cool off from the Texas heat with a movie at UBC. We would love to know if you’re coming so we can order food accurately, so email toph@ubcwaco.org or sign-up in the foyer at church (but if you don’t sign-up, we would love for you to come). If you have any questions, contact toph@ubcwaco.org
Find more details and our full calendar of events on our website. This calendar is updated frequently, so check back often!
