To UBC:
One of the hardest things to figure out in life is…what to do in the midst of tragedy? You never know what to say and never know what to do. I have continually struggled with this thought. But I’ve come to a conclusion, maybe being present speaks louder than anything.
Three years ago UBC experienced a tragedy. Laura and I moved from Colorado because we felt the need to be present and live in the midst of a tough situation. I had no grand schemes for the future of UBC but knew that being here would be enough for the time being. I have been able to witness this value, which is UBC’s value also, come to life. UBC thrives to this day. The staff and leadership is creative, challenging, hilarious, and continues to care for students like never before. Seeing this lived out in the life of UBC has been so healthy.
If you know me, you know my love for the mountains. Our desire is to be back there, that is where we come alive. Therefore resigning my position at UBC and taking a dream opportunity in Vail, Co with the ski patrol is an opportunity I can’t pass up. As hard as a decision like this is, we are going for it.
The affirmation we have received from staff and friends confirms our decision. I want to thank the church and especially the staff for understanding who I am. I am not your normal pastor and UBC is not your “normal” church. This has been a beautiful place to challenge, struggle and push toward a more grace filled gospel and I will never forget the things I have seen.
Blessings,
John Mark and Laura Seelig
